Elukami, also known as "indigo fingers," is a traditional and modern Black American form of temporary body art. It honors enslaved ancestors in the Gullah Geechee and Hoodoo communities who harvested and processed indigo plants, which naturally stained their hands and fingers a deep blue-black. Incorporates cowrie shells, Sankofa and other Adinkra symbols, magnolia flowers, and quilt code patterns from the Underground Railroad.
Stencils and free hand will be used. I will
shades of Haint Blue—a traditional southern color used to ward off spirits—alongside natural indigo or mixed dark plant dyes like jagua.
